"I often think of myself as an island girl, having grown up in Cebu, which is dotted with some of the country's best beaches. I love exploring new places, trying out all kinds of food, immersing in the arts, listening to rock music, and reading everything from books to news articles to advertising copy. I've always lived by the principle of collecting experiences rather than things :)"
"I've long been passionate about education and was really on the lookout for a job that would allow me to be part of the solution to the Philippines' long-standing problems with education. When I learned about Quipper, I was sold on the advocacy and impressed by the scale and impact it had achieved in the Philippines in a short period of time. I left my old job shortly after."
"It can be summed up in one word - access. Long answer - In the Philippines, one of the biggest challenges we face as a nation is providing access to quality education to everyone. Though the public school education system has undergone some reforms in recent years, they have yet to create institutional change, particularly in the rural and far-flung areas. By providing teachers and students anywhere in the country access to 1) excellent content and 2) tools to make teaching easier and learning more fun and engaging, Quipper is changing the teaching and learning experience. This is a really big deal in a country where many public schools have teachers handling 50 or more students per class, where students often have to share textbooks and school supplies, and where drop-out rates are quite high. If using Quipper services gets more students from disadvantaged backgrounds interested in learning, or even just gets them to show up to class, then that can already make a world of difference in those students' lives."
"It would be great if we could further build our company culture. Apart from having the different offices get to know each other, it would help to have learning sessions, workshops, or similar activities that focus on the bigger picture - the context we're operating in, the specific challenges we want to address, our role in the education landscape, etc. "
"I am a guy who likes cracking jokes and giving smiles to every person I am with, even if they are not close to me. I put God in the center of everything, respect everyone and offer help to anyone in need if able. I love to play basketball, sing, dance, play magic cards, watch movies and anything to do with Superman :)"
"I had been looking for a dream job, while I was working home-based earning through games, when Wilty (Quipper PH Customer Support) introduced me to Quipper. She explained that the job was mainly chat support for an education platform, and that the CEO is the co-founder of DeNA, which was the company of the game I had been playing to earn (Peko). I gave it a shot, and really got curious how this platform can change the education in the Philippines. And yes, this is the dream job I had been in search of, so I'm very lucky being a part of the organization."
"When I was informed that I will be a Business Development Officer of Quipper Video, from a Customer Support Leader position, I was a little hesitant at first because it would be a completely different task. But I considered it as a challenge, just like when I started at Quipper. I started slow, but with guidance I am now picking up, being able to get agreements from several private schools, including one with 1000 students! We are targeting more schools to sign before the Christmas vacation too. I am working on making improvements every day but I believe Quipper Video has the potential to be the next big wave in education in the Philippines."
"What I like most with Quipper is its potential to be big in the future. With additional innovations and improvements on the product, I would not be surprised if all the schools are using Quipper. Another aspect would be the management. Being transparent, they listen and consider."
"My suggestion is to have like an internal Quipper website where the organization chart is posted with everyone's job description and position defined, so that each and every employee knows what their roles are and which departments they should go to for any particular concerns."
"A passionate maker, 90's kid, big supporter of indie Filipino music, and huge fan of Jollibee. My world is tech startups and anything involved. I always strive to elevate my software craftsmanship, considering it as my addiction and spend most of my time learning new technology. When away from the keyboard, you can find me eating at the streets of Banawe, Quezon City, one of the best foodie destinations in Metro Manila."
"Back then, when I was looking for a new opportunity, I met Kohei (web developer at Quipper Japan). I was impressed by how he was able to showcase Quipper's engineering skills through a small project he created with my previous employer. Shortly after that, I learned how Quipper brings a new era of better education, especially to my beloved country and the rest of the world. Through Quipper's vision and genius engineers, I can foresee that one day, every learner in the world will have access to quality education. When that happens, I want to be there. I want to witness how my craft takes part in that huge innovation in the education scene."
"I'm always delighted whenever I read the tweets in our #twitter-quipper channel on Slack. Some of the users use Quipper for fun (e.g. creating prank assignments for their classmates; sneaky boys using the chat feature to talk with the girl they have a crush on; creating artistic drawings with the drawing board from the study notes, and a lot more!). But most of them use Quipper to improve their way of learning (e.g late night cramming; answering bulk assignments *with rant* conveniently; reviewing for their university entrance exam). My point is that these reactions are the reflections of how students use Quipper to learn in a fun way. Learning should not be boring, and Quipper solves that problem through exceptional content and data-driven features that are effective to improve the way of learning."
"I'm currently one of the core developers working on the payment service for Quipper Video. One of my responsibilities is to create a system which enables every learner to pay and ensure that every payment guarantees the account to use the Video service - in a secured, audited, and synchronous way.The payment service that we created already received 1170+ paid transactions through banks or over the counter payments (at the time of writing). Each transaction has an amount ranging from 300,000~400,000IDR from the learners of Indonesia. Our development team is preparing now to extend the payment service for operations in Mexico and the Philippines in the next few months."
"What I like about Quipper is the way it enhanced my startup DNA. I have been involved in a LOT of startups throughout my career (given that I've worked with a startup accelerator before) and I can't put into words how aggressive and talented Quipper is compared to other startups that I've worked with. The engineering team is excellent and has a good synergy (even with different time zones!). The culture is great and follows the best practices of modern web development. Whenever there's a new project that I'll be involved in, it excites me a lot since I'll have the opportunity to work with these exceptional people here at Quipper. Each with only one vision: to be the `Distributors of Wisdom`."
